WHPSC: Gold medal for Andrea Gallo and Policumbent Team
It is an all-Italian gold that snatched on Sunday, September 16th at Battle Montain (USA), on the occasion of the WORLD HUMAN POWERED SPEED CHALLENGE 2018 (WHPSC). At the end of the run week Andrea Gallo, with the Policumbent Team of the Polytechnic of Turin, arrived first absolute surpassing the other teams present. A result that rewards a year of work done research, study, planning and training for the Italian athlete, who in the saddle of his "Taurus" could get the impressive performance of 133.25 km h. «We could not get the world record we aspired to - said Andrea Gallo, who works in Arol as a mechanical designer - the runs were all windy, I repeated on Saturday morning with conditions not yet optimal at 132.5 kim / h, but in the evening the runs have never been good. According to our calculation models we had estimated to reach 135/136 but unfortunately, I could not do it because of the weather. However, we are satisfied with what we got at Battle Montain». The recumbent bike prototype used by Andrea was developed by a team of 40 engineers and researchers from the Polytechnic University of Turin, and some private partners have contributed to its realization, including our company. With the support of Arol Canelli (ASTI), 35 aluminum components were created, designed to make Taurus faster and more aerodynamic. Unfortunately, the adverse wind conditions did not allow this year to exceed the established world and European records, but the Italian team does not give up: «the 0.5 km/h that separate us from the European record is just a matter of time». So, the challenge is postponed until next year, always in the Nevada desert.
